About RAL 010 30 44
The RAL Design system is built in regular steps — saturation 05, 10, 15, 20 and onwards — but where the series runs up against the limit of what is achievable, RAL puts the actual maximum value there instead of cutting the series off at the last round step. That keeps the most extreme colour available.
Those limit values differ per lightness: at L* 40 this hue runs on to 53, at L* 20 it already stops at 25. Lay the limit values within a hue side by side and you see exactly where the pigment has the most room.
In use this is the shade for anyone who wants the extreme: the deepest, fullest red that exists at this darkness.
