About RAL 010 40 20
There is a reason for that. At L* 40 you are low enough for depth and high enough to show the colour; at saturation 20 you are high enough for a recognisable red and low enough to keep it manageable. It is the point where the greatest number of requirements are met at once.
If you are hesitating within this hue, this is therefore a sensible starting point. If it does not work, you know at once which way to go: too dark means moving to L* 50, too restrained means moving to saturation 25 or 30.
