About RAL 010 20 15
This is the region where traditional exterior paintwork sits. Dark red woodwork — doors, shutters, gates — was common in the Dutch building tradition for centuries, and the reason was practical: iron oxide pigments were cheap, lightfast and weather-resistant, and they gave exactly this kind of dark, muted red. What is now an aesthetic choice was then a choice of material.
Compared with black this shade has one practical advantage: it greys down less visibly. Where black exterior work looks dull and drab after a few years, a dark red stays recognisable as a colour for longer.
