About RAL 000 60 00
There is a design idea behind that which goes beyond convenience. In a room only one thing can hold the attention at a time. Everything that should not hold it has to recede — and at this level grey does that most effectively, because it is neither light enough to reflect nor dark enough to read as mass.
It is also the most common middle value in a three-layer build-up: dark floor, mid grey wall, light ceiling. That order follows the natural arrangement — ground below, sky above — and therefore feels stable without anyone being able to say why.
Take care when combining with white. Between this shade and a white ceiling there is well over fifty points of difference in light reflectance. That is a strong contrast which visually lowers the wall and makes the division hard; in a low room it works against you.
