In mediterrane bouwtradities is dit het gangbare gebied voor gevelwerk, en de reden is bouwfysisch zo goed als esthetisch: een licht warm oppervlak reflecteert genoeg zonlicht om koel te blijven en absorbeert genoeg om niet te verblinden. Onder Nederlandse lichtomstandigheden werkt dezelfde kleur anders — hier oogt hij eerder warm dan koelend.
