That is counter-intuitive. Orange is the warmest hue in the system and, in the light region, the one that takes the most chroma, yet in the dark region it lags behind red.
The explanation lies in what orange is: a light colour by nature. Lower the lightness and the pigment can no longer carry the chroma. Red can — hence burgundy, and hence the absence of any dark counterpart to orange.
