RAL Classic — reds (RAL 3000 series)
Twenty-five colours, RAL 3000 through 3033. The group runs from bright signal colours to deeply muted shades, and so covers two very different fields of use.
At the saturated end are the colours laid down in safety and signalling: RAL 3000 flame red, RAL 3001 signal red and RAL 3020 traffic red. These are prescribed for fire-fighting equipment, emergency provisions and traffic marking. At the muted end sit RAL 3005 wine red, RAL 3009 oxide red and RAL 3011 brown red — building colours, much used in roofing, steel structures and façade elements. RAL 3009 is also the classic colour of coated tile-profile sheeting.
Red demands more attention in execution than most other colours. Red pigments cover less well, so film thickness carries through more strongly into the result: two batches with the same colour code can differ visibly when applied differently. When touching up and matching existing work, that is the point to watch.

The series also holds a few fluorescent shades. These behave differently from the ordinary opaque colours and are less lightfast.
