RAL Design System plus — hue 075
In the yellow part of the circle the eye distinguishes differences in hue more finely than in the red or blue area. Two yellows as far apart in degrees as two blues are read as further apart. A jump from 070 to 080 is therefore a large jump in perception, and that is exactly the gap this hue fills.
In practice that means: if, in matching existing work, 070 comes out just too brown and 080 just too green, this is the hue to test. The reverse also applies — anyone who finds no satisfactory shade here rarely finds one in the neighbours.
The low-saturation shades read as beige and off-white with a yellow direction: 075 80 10 *Chalk beige*, 075 90 10 *Dessert cream*, 075 93 05 *Vanilla white* with a light reflectance value of 84.5. Those are colours for large wall surfaces and ceilings in rooms that have to feel warmer than a neutral white allows, without colour being added that stands out.

More about hue 075
At medium-high saturation the area of curry and spice appears: 075 50 20 *China cinnamon*, 075 60 60 *Turmeric brown*, 075 70 40 *Brick yellow*. At the outer edge stand 075 80 60 *Carriage yellow* and the most strongly saturated shade, 075 70 80 *Autumn yellow* at C\* 80.
With the light, low-saturation shades from this hue a phenomenon plays a part that stays invisible in dark colours: the binder itself yellows. Systems containing alkyd pull towards yellow over the years, and faster in the dark than in the light — the inside face of a cupboard door changes more than the outside.
Because the colour is already yellow, that shift does not visibly go the wrong way here but is reinforced: a chalk beige becomes yellower and more saturated instead of dirtier. That makes the hue forgiving with age, but unreliable when touching up in the same code years later. So record at handover what the colour was, with the A4 colour samples as the colour standard.
With light reflectance values up to 84.5, the upper part of this hue belongs to the most reflective colours in the system. On a ceiling or in a light well that carries through into the whole space: the reflected light takes the colour direction with it and gives walls and floors a warm cast that does not come from their own colour.
That is usable in rooms with little daylight, where it can also be a drawback: white materials in the same room — sanitary ware, fabric, paper — then read as something soiled. So always assess a light shade from this hue together with the white that will sit next to it.
