RAL Classic — whites and blacks (RAL 9000 series)

Fifteen colours, RAL 9001 through 9023. By units the best-selling group, and at the same time the group in which most mistakes are made — because the differences look minimal on paper and are impossible to miss in practice.

The whites. RAL 9010 pure white is the usual white in paintwork: just off brilliant white, with the faintest warm undertone. RAL 9016 traffic white is brighter and cooler, and is the base colour of many plastic window profiles. RAL 9001 cream is distinctly warmer and reads as cream at once beside 9010. RAL 9002 grey white and RAL 9003 signal white complete the series; 9003 is the reference in signalling and safety marking.

Anyone touching up or matching existing work must measure or compare here — never guess from the name. A façade with 9010 window frames and an added element in 9016 will show.

More about whites and blacks (RAL 9000 series)

The blacks

RAL 9005 jet black is the deepest black in the collection and the standard for hardware, structural parts and industrial finishing. RAL 9011 graphite black is slightly softer and greyer. RAL 9017 traffic black is prescribed in traffic and safety applications. RAL 9004 signal black belongs to the same signal family.

The metallics

RAL 9006 white aluminium and RAL 9007 grey aluminium are the two metallic colours in RAL Classic. They behave differently from the opaque colours: their appearance depends on viewing angle, film thickness and application method, so they cannot be reproduced with the same precision. Judge them at varying angles and on a specimen applied as the end product will be.
